My thoughts as a father of an autistic teenage boy....I have read so many medical findings and journals over the years (way more the first couple years after he was diagnosed than nowadays) to know not to believe anything spewed by the government about information gathered from sketchy sources. The overwhelming statistics from serious, respected medical sources all say the same thing....there is no correlation between autism and acetaminophen... or any vaccines either.
We had troubles with his pregnancy; the birth, breastfeeding, then crawling, walking, potty training, etc...you get the picture. We did absolutely nothing different with our second boy and everything was "normal" and on time. No difference in drugs or vaccines between the two either. As for the sharp increase in growth, I don't believe there is any increase. Autism is now on the radar for those who test young children (as well as pediatrician) and they know exactly what qualifies and doesn't.
The testing is much more rigorous and complete than just twenty years ago. Now that ASD is a spectrum, it also includes those who are very high functioning (those you wouldn't necessarily think are autistic, but maybe you would describe them as strange or weird) as well as those who are so severe with no hope of any education or a future without constant care that you might describe as mentally handicapped, but not autistic, but yet they are included.
