Funny how all these centers were built in the '80's and maybe some in the '90's when volume was far less than today. I get that there are modern efficiencies that have come about but why has the calculus changed that much? Where now it's OK to double the dead head miles for drivers soon to be making $50/hr not counting benefits and OT but it wasn't a good idea before. To think that they put all those costs into building the buildings in the first place. Now, it's mostly maintaining paid off buildings. Eliminating feeder routes and some managers doesn't seem like the cost savings would overcome the millions of extra miles about to be driven nationwide.before.
