Trump Administration Reaches Framework Deal to Keep TikTok in U.S.
The Trump administration announced Monday that it has reached a framework agreement with China to keep TikTok operational in the United States, resolving a yearslong standoff that began during Trump’s first term.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the deal will be finalized after Trump speaks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Friday — a precursor to a long-sought Trump-Xi summit. Bessent credited Trump’s “leadership and leverage” as essential to securing the terms.
While U.S. officials didn’t name the buyer, reports suggest the group will likely be led by Oracle’s executive chairman Larry Ellison, who has been floated as Trump’s preferred choice to take over TikTok’s U.S. assets.
