Change of Ops return to building

Our building is currently mid way through a change of ops. Rumors about four centers being consolidated to two. Has anyone had something similar happen to their building? How did the local handle the merging of the Centers as far as Shop Stewards, Safety committees, etc.?

Nothing really changed except where you are at on the seniority list.

They did this in the early 90’s when they built our new building and closed down three others and took a town from another. It stayed 4 centers with four CM’s for a while then became two centers. It all came down to how they divided up the centers by delivery area as to which one you were in. Annual rebidding stayed in center, but if a run opened up it was a building bid.

Nothing really changes, unless there are layoffs. Safety committee will still have the same people. You might now have multiple stewards in one center, which is nice, because you can use any of them. As mentioned before, seniority will change.

Any shop steward from a closed building in our local came to the New center not being a steward, unless the current head steward appoints them as an alternate. Hard to get people to do the safety committee as it is so anyone that wants to do it was allowed.
