Best case is probably if they were just losing oil pressure, fuel or fluid fast and could put it down under power.
Maybe they were damaged in a way that they could still autorotate and put it in the water unpowered.
The crew compartment is armored, which might help survivability to some extent.

He's fine, he actually just got accepted to a Local Fire Dept as a Firefighter. He's still in the Reserves and will stay in. With now being hired at the FD he will be able to fully retire at 50 with two great pensions. FD and Army. Likely getting close to $10,000 a month. Two tours in Syria helped.
