You don't hear much talk about lung cancer these days. A lot more attention on breast and colon cancer.
I had an aunt that lost a lung that way. She had previously been a heavy smoker.
My aunt was not heavy a smoker. Really not sure how it happened, but she ended up getting necrosis in her lung, and it had to be cut out. Pretty scary. But amazingly she’s doing quite well.

My aunt lived a long time afterwards. She was fine other than being short of breath at times.
And that was in the days when treatments weren't nearly as advanced.
