Yeah it really sucks not working.
You should definitely cancel the buyout.
Just thonk of all of the taxes you are going to pay...

That sounds like the old "all the overtime goes to Uncle Sam" wives tale.

After a certain point, it doesn’t pay to work it. The taxes kill you.

Marginal tax rates.
This isn’t correct.

Im sure he is probably going to make well over 100k this year plus any vacation time and other days owed to him
Add 150k to that. Plus if his wife works, that could be a big tax bill
That's why tgey are taxing it at 22%

I don’t recall asking you a goddamn thing, Sheldon.

10% | $0 to $24,800 |
12% | $24,801 to $100,800 |
22% | $100,801 to $211,400 |
24% | $211,401 to $403,550 |
32% | $403,551 to $512,450 |
I would think most that took the buyout paid no more than 24 percent-federal.
10% $0 to $24,800 12% $24,801 to $100,800 22% $100,801 to $211,400 24% $211,401 to $403,550 32% $403,551 to $512,450
So you’re a tax advocate for the government? You gladly had over 25% of your earnings and then pay added taxes on everything you buy or save. K

Sure, the actually bill is higher with the bonus. You pay more (most likely 22 or 24 percent) but you end up with more.
