Figured as much

Great great grandfather. He died during the war in 1864.
She traced the family back to 1645 in Scotland but things tend to get kind of sketchy that far back. In Scotland, then to Ireland for a generation or 2 before moving to America in 1761. I saw 2 or 3 variant spellings of family name that can confuse things even further. On the other side of the family someone else traced things back to 1803 when an ancestor moved here from Ireland but the search went cold from there.
that's very close to how my family got to America also. Originally from Scotland til after the Clan wars in the mid 1600's and then they moved to Ireland (Inniskeen) for a couple of generations til the early 1700's. We also had numerous spelling variations. Luckily for me, there is a good paper trail of land deeds/grants that show when and where they settled and eventually moved to eastern NC.
The advice that I have been given is if we wish to dig deeper into the Scottish/Irish lineage from 1700ish back, then we need to get in contact with groups that keep their own Clan records for that history. I haven't gotten that far yet but do know that it was Clan Lamont

Mine went through South Carolina and gradually migrated west with a couple of stops along the way before ending up in Texas. The other side of the family stayed in Georgia except for a couple that moved to Oklahoma.
