We had a driver who had this big bull dike on-car riding with him. They were in a strip center when she told him to stop so she could
grab a drink. He told her they still had air’s left and needed to keep going. She gave him that “I’m instructing you” BS, so he stopped
and while she went in the store.... he kept going and left her there. They had to send out another supe to pick her up and go find him.
Dude was a legend after that. Everybody hated her. Her parents were uber rich and she ended up hanging herself a couple years later.
I remember some of the old head drivers flipping out about wanting time studies because we were a bonus center, and they were slowly whittling away the bonus that those guys had had . I have no idea why they could not figure out the bonus system was a scam. They really believe they were going to gain time back with a time study.
We still have the bonus system, but it’s an absolute joke and there’s almost no way to actually get it without cutting corners and breaking rules and isn’t even then it’s not much. It’s a fools errand.
We had a "Dave" in our center maybe my second year (1990) and they just happened to time study his route while he was on vacation...swing driver cooked his route(allegedly).
