That can screw up their retirement. Someone from HR entered that in my file when I retired and I had to keep fighting for months to get my health insurance straightened out. Never any problems with the pension though.
I had to go over the head of the HR guy who was supposed to take care of things like that to his boss. Only a few people had the database access to fix it.
