I would be interested to see what the critics said about music back in the day and how you guys viewed it in relation
i know today for rap the critics will give absolute dog shit albums top tier ratings while giving objectively better albums half the rating, it’s baffling, I put zero credence into their thoughts. Places like pitchfork, at least for rap. They’ll give some good stuff good ratings too but also kind of over hype it a bit at the same time
I think it was a combination of the critics trying to act like they were smarter than everyone else and others being paid to push certain music.

I’ve read a couple music reviews of albums I’ve enjoyed just to see what they say, and my goodness I could barely get through it, they come across so snarky and condescending, and like you said trying to act like they’re smarter than everyone else
