Spectrum used to include the modem in standard charges but they started charging extra for the modem several; years ago. I bought my own then.

You can buy one for less than a hundred bucks. I think I paid $50-60 for one just like Spectrums. Only difference was the case is white instead of black. It would take long for an even more expensive one to pay for itself.

I think you can buy a modem that works with Xfinity. At least they do sell Xfinity compatible modems anyway.

Maybe before your time but it used to be everyone had to rent their own landline phones from Ma Bell. I think that changed in the 1980's or so.
