That's what kept Browncafe alive forever. They had 10 trillion threads about useful UPS stuff, and it brought people in naturally.

I've been (slowly) trying that with some of the thread seeding for like UPS news. But that's slow. And it's a catch 22. Google requires you to prove your an "authority" on something before they'll send you enough traffic to be a big useful site.

So the quick play is users now, and build content so that we are relevant to the internet long term.

Basically kiss the ring with Google.
