Most I regarded as acquaintances too, but there were a few that I called friends and like hearing from them every now and then.
It was weird for me. People I was “friends” with, were early in my career. Then, life takes over and those friendships fade.
People I knew that retired before me, talked to them once or twice and then they disappeared. It was like everybody had PTSD.

Oh yeah....
When I retired, I moved two states away to my hometown. Chances of running into any one I know are slim.
Problem is.... that dickhead @gumby lives just north of me. Feel my pain.
