I have heard of other sites having problems with the ads. Kind of sounds like it is dominated by one company that loves to throw its weight around and is putting the squeeze on everyone.
My experience with Google has definitely left something to be desired.

My brother-in-law had a small business software company he sold to Microsoft a few years ago and retired. I don't know how much but he definitely isn't hurting for money now.
