I am totally against "buying" games that are little more than a subscription fee. I want to have a physical copy on my own computer so I won't have to put up with any of that nonsense.

Not that I game much at all these days, but I use Good Old Games.
It's basically Steam, but only DRM free games.
Which means I can play them offline, or move them to a new device, or make backups.
