The whole tip thing....
I bid my one and only route back in the early 90’s. Nobody wanted it because it was a “ball buster”. It was 95% commercial business
and strip centers with 8-10 resi’s. Once you cleaned out a few bulk stops.... it was like a normal route. Had a lot of good customers
that weren’t used to being taken care of. Would run off delivery’s, then had 53 pickups starting at 2:30. Used to clean up on tips at
Christmas.... cash, gift certificates, food, and lots and lots of booze. Over the years, one shopping center completely died and most
of the business moved because of high rent. The route went to 20% business to 80% resi. Never got a tip after that.
