Trimming as in buyouts not lay off language to negotiate. I feel it be a more fair way for everyone like I said in original comment. Just my opinion where I was there as a teamster mechanic and drivers less time than me got the buy out and others that have more years bid into other jobs are also not included in the buyout. 30 plus year part time also not included . If you feel that’s fair no reason to debate. Just let the company do as they please.

Buyouts are not supposed to be for everyone. They are targeting the classification/jobs where they are the most overstaffed. Inside employees, both full-time and part-time, are left out for that reason. Because that’s typically the areas with higher turnover. There’s no need to offer buyouts to departments that are usually understaffed. UPS could easily layoff people without buyouts. But then they’d have to deal with unemployment and having those laid off on their books for the foreseeable future. They don’t have to negotiate buyouts. Should they? I think so. But legally/contractually? They don’t.

They have enough work for every driver to get 8 hours. Cutting routes and then sending those remaining out with 10-12 hour dispatches isn't overstaffing.

Thats not normal. Nor year round. And definitely not happening everywhere.

This is just as bad as cutting jobs with automation and closing centers. New deferd delivery and decreasing volume like Amazon. They had plans like Amazon in automation but waited until contract was over to ramp up the tech, reduced volume and close centers due to not wanting anything in the contract to delay their process.

Yeah. This is all self inflicted. The company is doing to itself what normally happens when a company gets beat out by its competition. But UPS was earning record profits and had higher profit margins than FedEx despite our high labor costs. They weren’t beat out by anyone. Even Amazon. There is more than enough shipping volume for everyone. It doesn’t make any sense.

Right now it’s still a little heavy in many places that were affected by the snowstorm. But we are wrapping that up.

And there is always that after peak season nonsense where they cut routes and try to pretend it’s still peak season.

But 12 hour days is not what’s happening everywhere all year. There is no “BOG”. Most centers are having to send slews of people home more often than they have just enough (or not enough) drivers. And, due to the company purposely shrinking and losing volume they didn’t intend on letting go, it’s about to get worse. If a center isn’t overstaffed, it will not affect them.

On the rare occasion throughout the year that some centers don’t have enough drivers is because of all of the FMLA abusers. But hey, I guess it’s reasonable to believe that so many drivers really do have crippling anxiety at the thought of delivering packages? Weird. 🤣👎

Crazy Amazon and Walmart both using PVD like drivers to deliver in my area now. Rarely see an Amazon van anymore. It’s rural area here just out of town.
