Just saying, in the court of public opinion, all everyone will see is that $150k figure. That will be the narrative.

Add to that the clip of Granny crying because the strike is delaying her medicine. You know some hack media outlet will be searching for Granny.

Well, that’s where you need an international that can explain their position eloquently.

Currently, I do not believe they’ve done that. They need to get on the ball.

The most important thing is that members need to understand it even if they’re not entirely happy about it they should be blaming the company.

The company has all the cards in this offer. The union didn’t pull it. The company did because the company chose to not negotiate.

I believe the defense is "this is our picket line".

No union employees are going to cross it, and your stuff isn't going to move till you abide by the contract.


Historically speaking it's worked for the teamsters nationally every time it's been used. Lol.


1997 lasted two weeks....I'd hate to see it for more than a month. I think the Teamsters would be in trouble.

I think there's far fewer Teamsters who are made of the same stuff as back then.

I think 50% of the part timers would cross at my old building.

When Ron Carey was in charge, there was no strike fund they could barely afford to pay the electric bill and the international.

If we went on strike, the international has a strike fund worth almost 400,000,000 wouldn’t last forever certainly but they definitely would be paying members quickly.

My local also has a strike fund of their own and no, there’s not a lot of people left from 1997

A big part of that strike was for the part timers. In the early 90's the union started allowing less pay for new part time.

Ron Carey didn’t help himself in a lot of ways. The strike was the only thing that might have been something people would’ve rallied around him for..

Some of it was misguided like the pension.


But he was 100% right with pushing for full-time jobs for inside employees.

Ultimately, he allowed things to happen under his leadership that caused him to be investigated and eventually kicked out


One thing I did do was show the company what solidarity looked like, and it scared the hell out of them.

We had one strike, not sure if it was 97, the union took the strike fund payment back!

710 now has a strike fund over 3 million dollars. Not huge, but it's better shape than we've ever been in before.

No that strike fund wouldn't last forever, but lets throw this out there....what about healthcare benefits? Surely that's a huge cost. How's Mrs. Blob gonna feel when she can't take little jr. Blob to the Dr.? Well I guess UPS would continue to pay that right?
