Two news about Florida, one I think is cool and the other I don’t think is a great idea, but curious about everyone’s thoughts
First, Desantis is proposing ending property tax. I’ve always hated the idea of property tax. Working all your life and owning a home, but still owing to the government the rest of your life pisses me off. Although I’ve brought up the idea to some conservative family and they were surprisingly against it, saying it will just create higher taxes elsewhere and also allows landlords to sit on property for long periods of time and reduces housing for other people.
Second, Florida just announced they’re ending vaccine mandates for public schools. I think vaccines should be a choice, I hated bidens move to force them on people, but from what I understand it’s pretty well regarded as a good idea for children congregating together like that to be vaccinated against the basics, and I was worried about the covid vax controversies to spill over to the “standards”.. it worries me that it’s one of those things we will lose the idea of impotence of over because we stop seeing the effects of it ironically because of the effectiveness of the vaccines over the years

Bro is trying hard to set himself up for the next election cycle.
If he can eliminate property taxes, quite frankly I don't much care what else he runs on. He'd have my vote.

That would be awesome, especially in a state like Florida with so many retirees, I just dont think a retired person who paid off their house and now has no income should be forced to pay property taxes or lose their home (thank you Adam Sandler for showing me this at a young age with Happy Gilmore lol)
Do you have any idea how that would work though? Where would they raise money for their services? Would they have to raise sales tax? Because they already don’t have income tax as well

We have income tax just no State tax. Sales tax is 7%. I have no idea how they would make up services kinda scary honestly, the local Sheriff for my county has asked for a billion dollars for next years budget where they'll get that I have no idea.
