The leftists haven't done much to strengthen their position with their shift even farther to the left. The traditional Democrats are scared of what is happening.
Well it's more difficult to declare that the extremists much be repelled from boarding your party when you already believe in things like men being able to become women. That's been widely accepted by Democratic politicians for years now. Leftist insanity was always going to serve as a foothold for the Marxists to gain ground in future elections.
The Democrats will probably underperform relative to where they might have otherwise. But a lot of people are going to be willing to give them a shot after all of the Trump BS. Not a good time to not be doing much other than renaming bodies of water, restarting a trade war with Canada and continuing the Iran debacle.
