I get it. The Union was also between a rock and a hard place. They had to do the best they could, because they were seeing the writing on the wall that they were going to lose in Arbitration next month, so they had to try and salvage anything they could now.
But the bottom line is that the Union agreed to this instead of continuing to fight until the end, like the good old days.
So they are both culpable.
I’m not so certain they would’ve lost. And I am certain the central region would’ve been deadlocked.
The company knew what they were doing was inappropriate they didn’t care and they also knew it would be very hard for the union to explain there position to its members. So fighting to the end was going to be difficult for the union because the company is playing a game.
Sure, a group of guys are gonna get $150,000 but the people left behind quite possibly we’re going to get the shaft. That would be a dare election of the union duty to not do something about it.
