The leftists haven't done much to strengthen their position with their shift even farther to the left. The traditional Democrats are scared of what is happening.

Well it's more difficult to declare that the extremists must be repelled from boarding your party when you've already said you believe in things like men being able to become women. That's been widely accepted by Democratic politicians for years now. Leftist insanity was always going to serve as a foothold for the Marxists to gain ground in future elections.
The Democrats will probably underperform relative to where they might have otherwise. But a lot of people are going to be willing to give them a shot after all of the Trump BS. Not a good time to not be doing much other than renaming bodies of water, restarting a trade war with Canada and continuing the Iran debacle.
Regardless of whoever is running this country we are all doomed unless you are part of the 1% and no one here is. So lock and load people the civil war is coming.

I know we're a ways away from the next presidential election, but man, I just can't stand either side. Now, there's a few that still have their head on straight, but not many. I consider myself a mostly centrist independent and I can't think of any potential future presidential candidate that strikes me as having any sense of saneness to even consider (ok, not everyone is crazy, but you get the idea). Then, not even talking president, just watching all of congress fail to get anything done, because neither side will vote with the other simply because they're not on the same side. Just vote on the actual bills you idiots. Senate passes something, House won't even take it up for a vote, and vice versa. WTF. We elected you to get shit done, not squabble all day long, getting paid to do nothing. Ok, I'm getting a drink. /end rant

The change will begin occurring in printed documents over the next several days.
This change has also been made official in the Geographic Names Information System.
