I was ultra cautious about spending the first year or so until I got a real world feel about everything.

It's a big change
Especially with thr money we are making now.

I try to do that as well. Even their pessimistic projection, I'd have just as high of percentage as the historical averages.

The survivorship options are expensive

That is probably going to be the biggest difficulty for me, going from the saving mindset of working, to the draw down mindset afterward. May take me a while, after the initial trips that would be planned.

And gay

Your costs will go down too. For me less miles driven and no longer having to pay the 2% city income tax among other things. As well as being in a lower tax bracket.

Though with investments and other retirement income that is looking to be a bigger tax hit for me for the near future.

That's why I won't let my pre-tax build up too much, even if I don't need it all.

Mine aren't too bad, less than $500 for 80%(I think), since I am only 17 days older than my wife.

I haven't touched my savings yet but have been taking distributions from my IRA but just moving it into my other investment account.

I should have switched to the Roth 401k, a lot earlier than I did. But I didn't, so now have to deal with the taxes afterward. Have way too much in the traditional,

Exactly you don't want your RMDs to be too large

My ROTH is in an IRA.
Now I realize how much that money is worth

Roth didn't exist when I started my retirement accounts and when they did come out it looked like a toss up whether converting them would be worth it.

I would want to rollover in Roth, and not pay the taxes on any future earnings.

Nows the time to do it with the Teump extended lower tax rates.

I have both, Roth 401k, and Roth IRA.

In hindsight I should have done that but am now taking distributions I don't need yet to spread out the tax hit

We can't rollover while still working, can we?

59 and a half

I would have loved to take advantage of the higher fixed rates we had a year or so ago

I don't think you can do that for the UPS plan but one of the first things you should do after you retire is rollover that 401k into an IRA (either Roth or traditional).
