Shessh. I remember when 9/11 happened. I was in 7th grade. They sent us home early I came home and my mom was in the kitchen watching the tv and then the 2nd plane hit.
I was making my next day air run, heard it from the business I delivered to. Made me sick. I wanted to go home. Strange days after that, no planes flying, people were in a state of shock.
Why'd they launch it the weather conditions were bad?
The weather wasn't bad, as a matter of fact it was a crystal clear day just very cold 28 I believe at the Cape. I worked lawn maintenance then and the place we were scheduled to mow tuned us away so I went home and watched tv. Walked outside with my girlfriend(who is now my wife)and watched it go up....well up to a point.

NASA was warned the O-ring seals on the booster got brittle in freezing weather but they were under pressure to launch anyway

Back then all lawn maintenance here was done by white folk. I worked for a company who had maybe 20 guys working there...all of them white and 100% American...wtf happened since then I don't know.
Sadly, I quit before my 30 days were over. It was a game we Pts played every year. Go on the road for a few weeks during the winter, stockpile some cash, quit and return to PT. Only to wash, rinse and repeat until next year.
