Needs to file a workers comp claim for PTSD from hitting and killing someone. That way he can collect comp pay while the accident is under investigation. I've seen it done before.

That's why you file a comp claim. They can't discharge him faster than he can file a claim and you can't fire someone on comp. He should be immediately on his way to the doc in a box as soon as the cops are done with him.

a lawyer wouldn't be a bad idea either. He will be shook up and maybe confused when he is talking to the cops
Had it happen in my building...guy with his grandson cut in front of a guy returning to the building....killed grandpa and grandson......driver was out for close to two years on comp from PTSD.

I knew a guy it happened to and while he got his job back he couldn't stay around much longer. PTSD over something like that is real.
