You really learn that when someone you trust is a mechanic too. So many times been quoted thousands for something they fixed for $100
honest mechanics are are invaluable and dishonest ones are scum
I had my transmission lock up last year and I though it was going to really cost me. It ended up only being a rotted cable bushing. Still cost me a hundred bucks.

Youtube helped me clean my throttle body a couple of years ago. My car was idling rough due to carbon buildup. Fairly easy fix but still kind of complicated by how much crap you had to take out first to get to the throttle body.

I learned how to rebuild a small block Chevy engine and did engine swapping as a teenager so I’m not afraid to tear into something under the hood. I use an app to pinpoint problems now due to all that emissions garbage.

I had also recently paid to have someone else change the plugs and supposedly do a tuneup. They should have also cleaned the throttle body then but didn't. Not a mechanic I will be going back to.
