I learned how to rebuild a small block Chevy engine and did engine swapping as a teenager so Iβm not afraid to tear into something under the hood. I use an app to pinpoint problems now due to all that emissions garbage.
The biggest problem now is all the special tools you need to work on cars.
My stepson is a very good home garage mechanic and has fixed up a lot of old cars then sold them. He can swap out an engine in a hour. He mostly worked on classic GM muscle cars.

We have these really cute little squirrel chipmunk things around here.
I'm normally a pretty peaceful person, but if it turns out they gnawed through anything, it's gonna be open season.
One of my wife's coworkers husband bought a brand new Bronco a few weeks back...right after the cold spell he gets in heading to work and it's running real bad, so drives it to the dealership to see what's up....fucking rats crawled up during the cold and ate up a bunch of wiring.....$5-$8000 to repair it.
