Round here it's established practice that if you are disciplined you can fill out a grievance disputing it after the meeting ends (on the clock). It takes 2 minutes. These guys don't turn in grievances and then complain "Stewart didn't do anything for me!"

Going to a steward to help you fill out a grievance to make sure you did it right is a good idea but never expect someone else to file for you.
