My center just lost half the contract for a gun distributor.
We'd fill a supervan full of cheap ass shotguns every single night. But they dispatched the route that did the pickup so badly it started getting done with the package car portion at stupid times, and we pissed them off doing their pickup late.
Apparently as of a couple weeks ago, now Fedex gets half.
That one pickup probably paid for a quarter of the center's drivers. Absolutely insane.

Typically, when pickups start getting involved, they quickly make adjustments.
How long was the late pickup time happening?
My money is on FedEx giving scab shipping rates. Been there, done that, they use them for a while, then switch back to UPS.
Their guys would have to stay late and get overtime when we ran late.
Their managers would call the center. It'd get fixed for a week, then go right back to the package car being stupidly over dispatched.
I had a place that wanted a late pickup and they would constantly switch back and forth between UPS and FedEx playing them against each other. They wanted to be picked up right at closing but expected you to wait around until after closing while they finished getting more packages ready. But if you ever showed up after their supposed closing time they would throw a major fit. I was happy when that place went out of business. The owner went through a messy divorce and the wife cleaned him out.
It was a sweatshop that made athletic uniforms. Almost all the employees were Asian women they treated like crap.
