You really need to understand the cultures of the Old Testament. It can be hard to wrap your mind around how people thought back then.
While I can understand trying to read the Bible in order you can easily get bogged down in the Old Testament. It is usually better to start reading the New Testament first. Much of it does refer to earlier books of the Bible so you should read those too but maybe not first.
How many kids do you have and how old are they and what are their careers and where do they live?
I'm not saying it's impossible but people like me that live outside of the big cities like DC, NY, Philly, LA etc... Shit is hard.
