The job is so much easier now, there is no comparison.

Lol, trucks were just as jammed, drivers got 8-10 hours of overtime most of the year. You had to figure out which way to run the route, often by looking at a map!

We started earlier, 8-8:15 am, which made it seem as not at much.

You also did not have edd, no driver release, cash cod's, check cod's, you needed to know route area codes, paper sheets, paper time cards, cod turn in forms, cod stubs, tally up daily cash, vouchers, file paper sheets and copies, residential: you often made 3 trips to doors for signature for one stop. tally up all pick ups, stops and pieces by area code.

I forgot about the COD’s. I get so few of them now it’s crazy. I used to run routes where I would have half a dozen at four or five stops every day.. what a nightmare I don’t miss that

Used to run one in the ghetto and there was like four hair salons that got COD‘s every day and it was all cash. These people were paying thousands of dollars for their weaves lol. Living in the ghetto, you gotta have your priorities I guess.

That's pretty doubtful. I know I'm a good driver. Only thing anyone can say bad about me is my attendance.

Cause you’re gay.

Cause you’re gay.

One of these days is gonna have to sit in front of a labor manager who will explain to him what they think a “good” driver is.

What pick ups? There were no ups stores or amazon returns back then. Internet hadn't really taken off at that point so I can't imagine Target or whatever else had 300 pieces a day going out like they do now. You guys had Mickey Mouse pick ups.

Yes, there were UPS stores back then. They just weren’t called UPS stores they were called mailbox, etc. lol

Sure bud. Is that all you can come up with?

Yes, there were UPS stores back in. They just weren’t called UPS stores they were called mailbox, etc. lol

And probably had 1/4 of the outgoing volume that ups stores have now. If that.

You are clueless. UPS doesn't make money delivering packages. It is the shippers who pay for everything. And most routes had 25-30+ pickups and came back to the building full.

Nope, they were just as heavy. And threw a fit if you were there 7 PM close lolAnd you had to fight the FedEx guy who also had a pick up there for the door.

No money in delivery, was what I was always told.

What pick-ups 20 years ago were filling up a truck?

Couldn’t pay me to go back to the old days. I don’t even know if I could drive one of those old trucks for a week without going to the hospital at this point.

Stop making a clown of yourself

Stop making a clown of yourself

There was nothing like the stress of a cover, driver going out blind on a route back in the old days with no EDD no GPS no idea what’s in the truck in an area. You have no idea. Literally lost lol. But yeah, we had a map.

Barely knew how to get to my first stop 😂

We still fight them now. I had to confront a post office driver the other day cuz he was honking at me in a resi neighborhood because I was blocking a mailbox he could drive up to. While I was walking off three stops. When I got there he was stopped talking to a guy walking his dog. I thought I had time. Didn't fuck him on purpose.

I was like like I don't move on your time bruh. I said next time you honk at me I'm gonna stop and sort my entire truck and you can sit and watch or walk the extra 10 feet and keep it moving. Lazy ass bitch.

Been there. Quite common back then.
