When I did my taxes a couple of weeks ago the 1099-R from Central States left the state income line blank instead of having the same amount as for federal. If they can mess up something that simple how can you expect them to figure out the new overtime rules?
This stupid technicality looks like it was overlooked when writing up the bill. This is going to piss off millions of people. Trump may not even be aware as his intention was for everyone's overtime. I'm certainly going to be furious. Had done the math and was counting on it.

What I'm saying is that Trump obviously isn't a tax lawyer and when he presented the idea, it's easy to think that no tax on overtime means no tax on overtime.
I've been at UPS for 20 years and this is the first I've ever heard of FSLA.
Reading into this deeper, it seems lawmakers would have actually had to rewrite all those laws regarding FSLA. They decided to just keep it in place.

The authors of the bill could have defined overtime in a different way so as to not exclude any overtime if that was their intention. From the title of the section 'Qualified Overtime Compensation' it's clearly not meant to apply to all overtime, only qualified overtime.
