DIAD reauthentication

Seems like a update to the diad software was pushed through over the weekend. A quirk of the new update is that whenever your diad loses service while it is in the cradle on the mapnav screen it gets stuck that way and you have to reboot to get it to do anything. That in itself is pretty annoying but the icing on the cake is now when you reboot the diad you have to do 2 factor authentication to get logged back in. It's the same 2FA process as logging in to UPSers, they text a code to your cellphone. This is problematic in many regards. What if I forget my cellphone at home? What if my phone died on route? What if I am on a rural route with no cell service? When one of these things happens I won't be able to log in to the delivery app without the code from my phone so I will have no way to send a message to the center telling them what's going on. I guess at that point I will be driving back to the center to ask them what they want me to do..

Any of y'all also having this happen to you this week? Would love to hear horror stories of problems this has caused if y'all have any yet.
How can UPS require you to use your personal cell phone for that? Having a phone isn't even a job requirement. I would leave my phone at home and let them figure out a solution.
It's problematic tying your cell phone into anything that involves work.......Fuck that.

I'd be willing to bet that they will want everyone to commit to that and before you know it you're using your phone to do deliveries, just like those peak drivers that use their own car, don't they also use their own cell phones? Just think of all the money they'd save not buying DIADS and paying for cell service for all of them.

Agreed it is a slippery slope. Yes the SSDs can download the app and use their own phone and I think the company gives them an extra $5/day if they do.

Lol we had the same issue today. Pretty much told them I will be filing grievance. I’m not using my personal phone for their authentication. If they want me to have my personal phone involved, they need to pay for it. As far as I’m concerned, everyone needs to call the Center from other customers phone and tell them I can’t sign back into my diad. I guess I’ll just sit here and wait until you figure this out .Fuck those cocksuckers.

Those are my thoughts on this issue

They absolutely cannot require it and anytime they say they want you to use the phone. I advise people to find a customer to allow them to use their phone.

The rumor is that we’re getting a new diad That’s more like a Cell Phone. I do not know if this update has something to do with that new device.

These assholes are constantly pushing the envelope. They’ve installed flock cameras at every entrance of the parking lot so they can record your license plate coming and going in your personal car as well.

That was what I always did and their attitude was they couldn't believe anyone wouldn't be willing to use their own phone for company business.

I dunno. Someone called our BA today and he said it was the first he was hearing about it. They asked our BA "what about people who don't have a cellphone?" BA laughed and said everyone has a cellphone. So I guess in typical fashion he's gonna ignore it until someone gets fired instead of figuring it out ahead of time.

Probably just being a smart ass, but definitely file a grievance on it.

Nobody was aware this was something that the company was doing.

Maybe everyone just forgets their phone at home one day next week? 🤷‍♂️

I can't imagine they make you guys carry around paper records anymore like years ago in case the DIAD took a shit.

Do the newer drivers even know how to use paper?

How bout a DIAD that's more like a DIAD. Did they learn nothing?

Probably just being a smart ass, but definitely file a grievance on it.

I was thinking about changing the 2FA phone# in my UPSers to my wife's phone#

Uhhh we can't even read cursive

When I went into feeders in 2013 they basically told us you need a cell phone and we need your number. The guy who went in right before me never owned a phone in his life and he got one. I didn't care at that point and was just happy to be out of package.

I was thinking about changing the 2FA phone# in my UPSers to my wife's phone#

The nerve of these people. There’s a USB port on the bottom of the diad holder one time asked why they don’t allow us to charge our cell phones with it. They said because we’re not in the business of providing you with a charger for your cell phone. Oh really? But now you think I should use my phone to sign in to your device? Hmmm how about no?

Probably just being a smart ass, but definitely file a grievance on it.
