Retire on the 31st. Pension check comes on the 1st and then you also get paid off for 7 weeks of vacation. If you take your 7 weeks of vacation, you won't get a pension check for 2 months.
I think the gamble is worth it because they legally have to pay you off. It might just take some time and effort on your part.

I was owed six weeks vacation pay for the next year and it took them a couple of months to find that. It turned out somebody stuck the live check in a drawer somewhere with a stack of other checks. You don't get paid for the Option Days for the following year.

We have to work one day in January to get paid out for option days
I don’t get it some of you all’s managers must be complete dickheads. My last 6 months of work was shifting and the manager I had knew me but owed me nothing and had my next years vacation pay to me in less than two weeks after my leaving.
