Buyout

Ive been trying to figure out the math . My number would be 135k or less, just because of the higher tax bracket. Honestly its probably around $3500 a week we get paid with health care and pension.

A 30 year career for a driver is worth multiple millions of dollars.

The people taking this 150 K who only have a few years in or giving up quite a bit I hope it’s worth it to them.

I agree

But the amount of people thst quit in the last 5 years or so is almost unbelievable.

That rarely happened years ago.

Yes this job sucks balls bit the money and benefits are hard to beat.

Does it shock you that people quit because they are impatient? We’re surrounded by people that refuse to wait for anything.

I’m not saying people can’t take this 150 K and do well for themselves, but the law of averages tells me most of them will not do better.

Maybe they’ll be happier who knows?

Our local president is telling everybody here that he has not seen the MOU or a list of who applied and who was accepted, so he doesn't know any of that.

That's likely what every PO should be saying at this point.

This PO did not see it either. But he wasn't going to leave his members in the dark and just give a blanket response of I didn't see it.

He went straight to the person who was at the negotiating table and asked him.

a lot of them will end up working for Amazon for half the pay and fewer benefits

They don't understand this isn't a 9 to 5 job.

Very little work like balance.

That’s what my PO is saying.

And I have no idea why the Union hasn’t put this out yet.

Plausible denial ability?

Ill be happier when I quit.

Just trying to figure out my next move.

Funny thing is I know a lot of people who don’t have a 9-to-5 job and make a 10th of what we make and have absolutely no healthcare and absolutely no retirement.

Thinking the grass is greener on the other side is a fantasy for the vast majority of these people.

Ill be happier when I quit.

Just trying to figure out my next move.

For someone who is close to retirement, totally understand it.

I don’t know, and I agree with you on this point.

Very difficult to tell members when we’re not privy to any detail details.

My PO has also called people who he thinks knows, to get answers for members, but should he really have to do that? 🤷‍♂️

He should not have had to call anybody. The agreement that the Union and UPS came to should have been sent to every local.

What is the Union trying to hide?

I have a feeling this agreement was more about the amount of jobs. UPS promised to create them how this buyout was handled. I’m not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing, but I know that Union wanted some sort of assurances from the company that they were going to honor their agreements of creating new jobs from the contract.

Pure speculation on my part of course.

Regardless, it’s absolutely a better deal for the union to be involved in this than not. But like you, I do wish we had more details.

So, there was a table....how many chairs were there?

....and is that only for those who ask get to know?

I'm not following you.

I’ve wondered what our benefits are worth with pension contributions and insurance for my family? You think $35,000?

Maybe you have bad information?

I did not talk to the PO personally. This was from a driver so anything is possible.

But, the way UPS did it is exactly what the driver said the PO told him.

A lot more than that.
