Alondra Espejel, 44, who served as a councilmember under the last name Cano, was elected in 2013 and exited public office in 2022 after choosing not to run for reelection.
During sobriety tests, Espejel 'was making comments about oral sex while the officer was trying to explain the Breath Test Advisory.' She refused the breathalyzer and was arrested on third and fourth-degree charges of a DWI for refusing to submit to a breath test and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Espejel was released on a $6,000 bond. She pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of refusing to submit to a breath test. The former council member was sentenced to two years of supervised probation, community service, and an additional $450 in fines.
