Been there. Quite common back then.

Oh yeah, and crank that stress level up by about five times during the fall and winter when you lose daylight at 4:30 in the afternoon! πŸ˜‚

Then you sucked his dick?

Perhaps

The job is so much easier now, there is no comparison.

Lol, trucks were just as jammed, drivers got 8-10 hours of overtime most of the year. You had to figure out which way to run the route, often by looking at a map!

We started earlier, 8-8:15 am, which made it seem as not at much.

You also did not have edd, no driver release, cash cod's, check cod's, you needed to know route area codes, paper sheets, paper time cards, cod turn in forms, cod stubs, tally up daily cash, vouchers, file paper sheets and copies, residential: you often made 3 trips to doors for signature for one stop. tally up all pick ups, stops and pieces by area code.

What pick ups? There were no ups stores or amazon returns back then. Internet hadn't really taken off at that point so I can't imagine Target or whatever else had 300 pieces a day going out like they do now. You guys had Mickey Mouse pick ups.

Lol, try 20 to 30 pick ups. UPS was the only game in town. Even home with small businesses had pickup accounts.

We had plenty of bulk pickups too. Like I said, everything went UPS.

Shippers listed each pick up on a sheet. I forget how many on each, maybe 5? You had to count the pieces and then sign each sheet.

The truck went back stuffed.

There was nothing like the stress of a cover, driver going out blind on a route back in the old days with no EDD no GPS no idea what’s in the truck in an area. You have no idea. Literally lost lol. But yeah, we had a map.

Barely knew how to get to my first stop πŸ˜‚

Pickup log on paper they didn't have any details like pickup points. One time I was running a route blind and the log didn't even have the addresses for a couple of the pickups. I had to ask at a couple of other places where they were.

Hey! That gif is copyrighted motherfucker. I introduced it to this website.

Good morning sunshine!

He is a thieving hore!!

I will say... Whoever introduced the "oh sure" John Candy gif... I give em credit for that. That one is hilarious. If you use that one on a bitch they get so mad

Whoever uses my regular truck on Saturdays keeps doing the thing where he uses a DR bag and ties it to the dr bag handle and uses it as a trashcan. Full of trash and piss bottles every time I get it back. I really want to find out who it is and confront him. That shit is not cool. Throw away your fukkin trash you slob.

Hmmmm πŸ€”πŸ€” I know where I'm disposing of my piss bottles tonight

Hmmmm πŸ€”πŸ€” I know where I'm disposing of my piss bottles tonight

In your own mouth again?

What pick-ups 20 years ago were filling up a truck?

It was an everyday thing. Had to physically call the center and clean up pickups that feeders wouldn’t cover.

And probably had 1/4 of the outgoing volume that ups stores have now. If that.

Good Morning Hero. You have no idea.

I forgot about the COD’s. I get so few of them now it’s crazy. I used to run routes where I would have half a dozen at four or five stops every day.. what a nightmare I don’t miss that

Used to run one in the ghetto and there was like four hair salons that got CODβ€˜s every day and it was all cash. These people were paying thousands of dollars for their weaves lol. Living in the ghetto, you gotta have your priorities I guess.

I still have COD's on my route. Almost 100% of the time it's a package from overseas wrapped in brown packaging tape. Mostly beauty stores and in my case this Anime store in downtown. Every once in a while it's a resi in the ghetto. Few weeks ago I had one for a indian/Pakistani and the family started surrounding me and told me I'm not leaving without giving them the package. I don't know how I ended up talking my way out of that one.

Nope, they were just as heavy. And threw a fit if you were there 7 PM close lolAnd you had to fight the RPS guy who also had a pick up there for the door.

Fixed

Yep, I still get COD from time to time but nowhere near what I used to get. Most companies got smart and began using their own credit cards to avoid the COD fee, which has become quite expensive from what I’ve heard

I used to laugh at the runners stressing out about the time change. They would skip lunch and sit in the office at the end of the day.

I found it relaxing. You can’t make time.... high probability of hitting shit.... so you slow roll it and make money.

What pick-ups 20 years ago were filling up a truck?

My center in the late 80s probably had 5-8 that would fill a P-1000 depending on the time of year in a 50-60 route center.

FYI, my wife sent a 2 day Air letter to California at a UPS store yesterday.
Almost $70 πŸ˜‚ highway robbery!!!πŸ˜‚
