UPS Buyout: Is it worth taking?

Where's the PT buyout?

There’s one coming soon. It’s a order ofLittle Caesars crazy bread and a coupon to your local dispensary..

Should clear out about 80% of the part-timers!

I’m not against people taking it. I’m against the company, implementing it without negotiating. If we allow them to do as they please there’s nothing stopping them from doing whatever they want.

The problem arising is why can shop Stewards take it last time yet they are screaming no this time? There is a lot of Union discontent here. That is not good anywhere.

I agree the international hasn’t done a good enough job of explaining their position.

I don’t believe they feel people taking it or the enemy. It’s the company and the plan they have that is the issue. They are trying to usurp negotiating with the Teamsters. And attempting to get out of their contractual applications to create new jobs.

Doesn't matter and you know it....people see a union rep taking it...getting it then saying no you can't have it....that's going to cause problems. Now I know that will not be everywhere, but it is here and it's causing a big problem.

Yep, I agree. It could be a bad look. But I don’t think the international is telling people they can’t take it. They’re telling UPS they can’t implement it without negotiating. There is a difference, although I’m certain most won’t bother to dig a little deeper.

Any union rep who takes it also no longer is on leave from UPS so if they get voted out of office, they’re sent down the road.

Two guys I know(Stewards)for a fact took the last buyout and are now working for the local fulltime. That has caused a big issue in my old building. Then again my local is a suckass local.

Well let me run this by you Union suck-boys. There was a couple of Union shop Stewards from my old building that took the last buyout and left UPS to go to work for the Local as Business agents. So is that ok?

They likely won't have much influence past the local level, if that was their career path.

....but what do I know?

Many drivers retired under this current contract but before the buyout offers. Most if not all of us would have postponed retirement had we known $150k was soon to be available. The buyout was not negotiated and violates the contract. It is a separate agreement between employer and employee. It contradicts with the provisions of the contract by offering different terms of employment and different wages for employees under the same contract.

Retirees cannot file grievances but can be included in the remedy to current employee grievances.

So please, current drivers; file grievances regarding the buyouts and specify in the remedy requested: all drivers who retired under the current contract to be paid $150k.

Thanks brothers and sisters!

If you have a cushy pension but you need cash now, call JG Wentworth! 877-CASHNOW

I would have thought that a guy who wants his pension fund left all the heck alone would understand what up to 30K extra unplanned monthly withdrawals could do.

Again, not really picking a side here, it's just nice to see the potential for some decisive action on the union's part.

And what about the younger workers that would replace some of them ?
