IRRMA! Get ready. Sic em' boys!

IRMAA

Something to plan for as you get closer to the two year before 65 income.

Too late for that...

So even if I get gigged the first year, they recalculate every year, is that right?

I think they recalculate every year and go back 2 years. So it would be a temporary blip for you. One of my biggest headaches is keeping things under the threshholds where it suddenly really jumps up.

I think I read you can have it reduced for some reasons... like job loss, think I will try that.

Yep I think he can file the SSA(?) form unlimited times for life changing events if they qualify.
Wife may have to also.

Not sure if that appeal will fly in terms of avoiding the 2 year hit.

OK, anyone know if this is true?

  1. I know wifey gets a percentage of mine (instead of her own).

  1. When I kick the bucket, I heard she gets whatever amount I was getting instead of the percentage she got when I was alive. True?

To get the right answer, call them. 800 772 1213

Yes, the spouse will collect the higher monthly amount. This is why some delay taking social security.

She should get 50% of whatever yours was at FRA(67) less if earlier, and only yours when you kick the bucket.

I have some years to go so,

Like @cleanhairy said give em a call and/or check the website.

Yup, I'll do that.

When I heard she gets my amount when I die, it brought something up.

We had been planning on delaying starting hers so it would build a bit, and she'd have more when I die.

But she'll never get up to my amount, so we really should just start it now seeing she'll get my amount anyhow. See what I mean?
