Buyout

Interestingly enough, if all of these senior drivers were so concerned with layoffs every single one of them could put their paperwork to retire December 31 now still make close to $150,000 because of the great wage we make as well as receive all of their vacations. And all of this could be done without violating the contract because we’ve negotiated such great wages.. where’s the great concern?

With the buyout, that-out the door number, is a whole lot better. Tremendous opportunity for those leaving anyway.

So you don’t have an actual reply, just a bunch of nonsense? Stick to the memes and being bitter about your pension. It’s worked well for you. 🤣

Funny, these are the same kind of people that complain when they think the union doesn’t do enough to enforce the contract now they want them to break the contract willingly and turn the other way.

Money talks! @gumby sees that $150k, figures he's leaving soon anyway, he's grabbing it. Who wouldn't?

Why not? 150k plus my pension

Sure, but it isn’t about the money. It’s about the way it was offered.. and I think @gumby would agree the way they’re offering this and even today he doesn’t know if he’s getting it is pretty ridiculous.

Some people took this offer like adults and understood going in what it was about. The majority of the people do not. If only there was some sort of guarantees kind of like when you negotiate something….🧐

Maybe Nobody is getting it

I have a feeling if these gung ho-"no buyout" Central guys were close to retirement they would be singing a different tune. They would be online as we speak, researching annuity rates, high dividend mutual funds, or cd rates!

Would they be searching the fact that they signed an agreement that said they would have to pay the money back if it was found to be noncontractual or illegal? that includes even if you’ve paid taxes on it the company could come back at any time after that and require you to return the money.

Do you think the union would’ve negotiated some sort of poison pill like that? I bet they wouldn’t have.

The central has plenty of guys who are high senior seniority that could take this or could continue to work another six months and make the same amount get another year of pension credit and move on.

My guess is very few of them are going to be buying annuities or investments, mostly Corvettes and boats lol.

Gonna look kind of silly when you got to handover those keys to UPS

If I was looking for advice on keeping my yard green, I would certainly ask you if I was looking for advice on money or contractual issues I would run the other way.

Yep, you know 100% they would. Some people want the union to look the other way and set a precedence. Sure this money might help a few people, but it gives no guarantees to the people left behind in this the union and makes a joke of our contract. It’s exactly what the company wants.

Anytime the company wants to sit down and make some honest guarantees about layoffs about seniority about respecting our contract. The door is open. UPS pulled this offer because they knew they were wrong. The union is only protecting what they should be. Nobody in the central is a strong no against a buyout. They’re a strong, no against a sellout.

Money would be gone in 3 months then they would be begging for their job back.

If I end up getting the buyout I'm just going to put it in my money market fund for a few months and figure out what I want to do with it

No impulse purchases.

One of the guys who took the last buyout with my dad blew his 50K already.

New pontoon last year, and concerts.

We were talking about those ready to retire anyway. They have enough time in to get full retirement healthcare and pension.

Trust me, once you leave UPS, you ain't going back!

But I wanted to come back as a helper.

Better to "help" the wifey out the door to her job. You need to relax.

She might have to go from part time to full time.

Now you're talking. She can do the housework later. None of this working from home stuff either.

Exactly

She can fix me a sandwich before work and another when she gets home.
