Buyout

Well, it’s not negotiated so I suppose they could give you whatever they want. You can go get a lawyer if they screw you, but kind of defeats the purpose.

They could also give you nothing and once you sign the clearance slip you're finished. Who is going to fight for you? Teamsters? I doubt it they said not to take it.

Anyone hear of UPS cutting a check for less than agreed on during the last buyout?

You’re no longer a Teamster. No chance they would be willing or even able to fight for you.

No

Me either. Sounded like scare propaganda when I first heard.

Sure and I’m gonna guess you believe that working without a contract is a scare propaganda as well?

Amazing for a guy who worked for UPS all these years. How much knob did you polish at UPS over the years my guess is you spend a lot of time under your Center Manager’s desk.

The union is doing their job looking out for their membership. The first time someone get screwed over. It will be their fault, even though they were warned.

OK, who got less than offered during the last round?

To my knowledge, no one. These offers have a lot of stipulations. The Union‘s job is to protect its members.

Your assumption is the union doesn’t want the company to offer these buyouts. Your assumption is not accurate. They only want them to be negotiated fairly and for the members not to have the opportunity to be taken advantage of by the company..

Provisions like the company being able to take this offer from you if you’re terminated, leave the door open for a lot of horse play by the Company.

Provisions like requirement of another signature after the offer is accepted, and if you don’t sign you lose the money as well.

The only issue I know of last time was the company hasn’t paid about a half dozen people the vacations they were owed yet at my location.

I don’t have a problem with anyone taking it. For some people it makes perfect sense.

The issue lies and trusting the company you vote for for decades, knowing that they have no problem, screwing people over both on technicalities and questionable integrity.

I agree that could happen that is simply why the union has put up such a stink about not having these negotiated.

There is quite a bit of legalese in these contracts and I guarantee you most people don’t understand or even care until something were to happen.

The company has dozens of lawyers working against you. It’s smart to have someone representing you..

You’re no longer a Teamster. No chance they would be willing or even able to fight for you.

Once a Teamster always a Teamster✊

But yes

You’re no longer a Teamster. No chance they would be willing or even able to fight for you.

You are 100% correct. Nor did they really do much for me as a Teamster when I needed them.

Only problem I know of from people that took the last buyout was trouble getting their pension money from Central States....again with not a single finger lifted by the Teamsters to help.

Technically we are all Teamsters for life.

I say, "you would think" but we all know guys that reach retirement age and have done absolutely zero in terms of planning. Suddenly, their overwhelmed. Had years, did nothing.

I've only been retired for 11 years.

One of these days I'm going to get a financial planner to prepare me for the future.

Speak for yourself

I do believe one would have a really good case if they tries to pay you less than the amount on the paperwork.

A good case for what, in what venue?

W

There’s a bunch of small print. Not to mention if you happen to get fired for any reason between the time you’re approved. And the time you’re separated from the company you will get nothing.

I’m sure the company is totally trustworthy It wouldn’t fire you for some silly reason……😉

Can't see someone close to retirement getting themselves fired?

Anyway, we have guys with 50 call outs still working.

I think you’ve been retired for a little bit. They’ve definitely been pushing this stuff up the chain a lot more..not to mention they’re pushing “not in our house” harassment policy nonsense.

Also, you make the case against signing an agreement with UPS with your statement. The union is the sole negotiator and representative for a terminated employee. The company should not have the right to enter in an agreement, allowing them to terminate an employee without the proper hearings that provide and agreed upon an outcome.
