High Temp, High Stops, Hire People!
Hire more people,LOL,SMH...where's that a/c package car they were so proud of winning in the contract?
MYOFB
This is part of the plan in the " Better not Bigger" campaign. The buyout cut costs by removing top pay drivers , reduced Health and Welfare contributions while increasing dispatches on those remaining.Implementing the Buy Out right before peak vacations will make it easier for the company to plan to see how peak will work with less drivers, and make no mistakes peak will be an absolute nightmare this year. The company has to make up the $1.2 billon dollar buyout, and the company knows paying one driver 13 hours is far cheaper than paying two drivers 16 hours. Service will take a hit, but the company feels that's the cost of doing business for the time being.I'm also of the opinion that the company wants to make the job so miserable and unbearable that after two or three years the driver will quit, and if he is replaced, it's from a new hire making starting pay. The company has no use for Long Time employees, and will do its best to keep drivers from being long term.
They want the Amazon model
2028 is going to be rough
It infuriates me that the Union spent all of the time and dues money going to Las Vegas to reelect SOB whilst doing absolutely nothing about Roadie.
The problem I see in my area (Central Region) is when drivers take their two 10 minute paid breaks and a one minute unpaid lunch (entitled to 30 minutes), then they try to take a "cool down" break later in the day, while they still have twenty-nine minutes left of contractual break time. I would make sure you have exhausted all contractual break time before trying to take additional paid break time on the guise of heat related issues.
You.well know some people push everything to the limits and other people have no common sense

A lot of these 1 minute lunch guys end up with a few weeks unpaid time off here.
Wally's be arguing for automatic 9-5 pay for years now.So, why hire more people? The excessive overtime- grievance procedure is not utilized by many the driver. If it were automatic, the company would be paying out a whole lot more.
That's simply not true, because there is money in it, good money.
The Company however does seem content to just pay the penalty, that's a fact....
....and you are apparently way out of touch.

Out of touch? Getting on the 9-5 list is one thing, filing is another.
The fact is, if 9-5 pay were automatic, the pain inflicted on the company would be greater than what we have now.
Plain truth is, many do not file. Why? Who knows, scared of management, the OJS, or they simply don't want to rock the boat?
Excessive overtime will continue, might as well insure every Teamster working those extra hours gets automatic extra pay for it.
Automatic 9-5 pay also neutralizes the OJS threat game management plays to keeping people from filling.
If you can prove to me that the company will be paying the same exact 9-5 money out even though 9-5 payouts were automatic, I will yield to your assessment.

There is no such thing as "automatic 9.5", but I like the concept....
....but even if there was, there will always be a signup list to separate those who are "all you can eat" and those who aren't (as it should be).
I say you are out of touch because you believe there is a significant number of drivers who sign the list, then don't file for the penalty pay. That simply is not true.
I will acquiesce without knowing for a fact, that there is certainly a small group of cowards who are too scared to file, but I maintain that number to be virtually insignificant in the totality of the stats.
In my building there has been 549 grievances paid at triple time already this year and another 95 paid at quad-time, for well over $225,000 in penalties and we are only 60% through the season.
The Company has seemingly embraced this cost in their business model and pays the penalties without hesitation.
Only a fool would look past the availability to cash in on that money, and there are very few fools here.
